Annual SEA Golf-lympics

Annual SEA Golf-lympics

As the only golf club that embodies parcels of the different Southeast Asian (SEA) cultures, Triway Pitch n’ Putt wouldn’t miss organizing an annual golf tournament for SEA countries in the spirit of regional relations and sportsmanship! Sir Cadogan Shi, founder and current CEO of TPPGC, said in an interview that the idea of a “golf-lympics” came to him one summer exactly three months after opening his golf company. His wife Annie was just telling him how poorly-received golf was in Southeast Asia when he saw a TV documentary about how competition could be used to achieve unity. Applying this logic to his business, an annual event was conceived with the aim to not only boost the popularity of golf in the region but also to foster a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition among the Southeast Asian nations.

The SEA Golf-lympics, now in its 10th year, has grown from a modest gathering of golf enthusiasts to a prestigious event that attracts participants from all ten ASEAN countries. The tournament is celebrated for its unique blend of competitive golf and cultural exchange. Each year, the event is held in a different member country, showcasing the diverse beauty and golfing landscapes of Southeast Asia. From the lush greens of the Philippines to the historic courses in Malaysia, the SEA Golf-lympics offers a platform for players to experience the rich tapestry of cultures that the region has to offer.

Sir Cadogan Shi further elaborated that the tournament is structured to emphasize sportsmanship and cultural appreciation over victory. While there are certainly winners in various categories, the event prioritizes participation, exchange, and the celebration of each country’s contribution to the sport. Special awards are given for the best traditional attire, promoting a fun and festive atmosphere where players often don traditional outfits during the opening and closing ceremonies.

The SEA Golf-lympics also serves as a bridge for budding golfers to step into the international scene. By providing a stage for emerging talents to compete and interact with seasoned players, the event nurtures future champions and ambassadors of the sport. TPPGC works closely with each member country’s golf association to ensure that the event is accessible to golfers at all levels, from amateurs to professionals.

Aside from the competitive aspects, the SEA Golf-lympics is a beacon for environmental stewardship and sustainable sports tourism. The event promotes eco-friendly practices, such as the use of biodegradable golf balls and minimizing water usage on the courses, aligning with the region’s commitment to preserving its natural beauty.

As the SEA Golf-lympics continues to grow in stature and significance, it stands as a testament to Sir Cadogan Shi’s vision of using sport as a means to unite people. It’s not just a tournament; it’s a celebration of Southeast Asia’s vibrant cultures, the spirit of competition, and the universal love for golf.
